Reading this with wet socks?

Do these four before anything else.

All flood tips
  1. Stay out if it could be live.Water near outlets, appliances or the panel means stay out. Shut power only if you can reach the panel dry.
  2. Stop the water.Close the main shutoff if it is a pipe. If it came up a drain, stop using sinks and toilets.
  3. Take pictures now. Before anything moves. Your insurer will ask, and you only get one chance at them.
  4. Call us.Tell us where it came from and what it has reached. (888) 929-0245
The first thing we ask

Where did the water come from?

It decides what you can touch, what can be saved and how the job goes.

Tap yours.

Categories are from the IICRC S500, the water-damage standard the restoration trade uses.

Category 1

Clean, at first

A supply line, a split fitting, a pipe that froze.

Shut the main first, then call.

The S500 calls water from a sanitary source Category 1.

It can get worse with time and contact with building materials.

One basement, start to finish

The puddle is never the whole job.

Scroll it through.

This is what a drying job looks like from above.

Plan view of a finished basement drying out, an example drawing A floor drain backs up and water spreads. The water is pulled out, but a moisture meter map shows wet areas far past where the puddle was, across the wall and into the finished room. Air movers and a dehumidifier run, the wet readings shrink, and the whole room reads dry. 1. 1

    You see a puddle.

A drain backs up, a line lets go, a storm finds the wall.

By the time you get downstairs, the slab is already covered.

  2. 2

    The water comes out first.

Standing water goes before anything else can start.

The dashed line marks how far it got.

It looks better already, and that is the trap.

Rubber boots and a stiff brush pushing muddy water across a floor
  3. 3

    The meter sees more.

Water moved under the wall, into the carpet pad and up the drywall.

The map of what is wet is bigger than the puddle ever was.

Wall opened to the studs after wet drywall was cut away
  4. 4

Gear goes where the wet is.

Air movers line the wet walls, and a dehumidifier pulls it out of the air.

The S500 rule of thumb starts at one per room, plus one per 50 to 70 square feet of wet floor.

Same spots, every visit, until the wet walls match the dry ones.

EPA says to dry water-damaged areas within 24-48 hours to prevent mold growth, so the clock matters.

    Then it reads dry.

The last readings match the dry parts of the house.

The gear comes out, and the room is yours again.

Is this water damage?

Five things worth a call.

You do not need a puddle for it to be water damage.

Each of these can mean something wet that you cannot see.

Asked at bad moments

Short answers, straight.

Are you really open at night?

Our Google listing says open 24 hours, and yes, call any time.

We will tell you on the phone how soon someone can get there.

Will this turn into mold?

EPA says to dry water-damaged areas within 24-48 hours to prevent mold growth.

Some states require a licensed contractor for mold work, so the rules depend on where you are.

Tell us what you are seeing and ask how it would be handled on your job.

Does my insurance cover this?

Only your insurer can say.

Standard homeowners policies generally do not cover flood, and sewer backup often needs an add-on.

Take pictures first, then call them.

Do I have to move out?

It depends on what the water was and where it reached.

Sewage or a wet living space with kids is a different talk than a wet laundry corner.

Ask us when we see it.

Nothing is dripping. Can it still be water damage?

Often, yes.

A stain, a musty room or paint letting go can mean wet material behind the surface.

Tell us what you see and we will tell you what we would check first.
